Headaches, neck pain, eye strain, and computer vision syndrome.
I didn't finish my homework.
I didn't take any notes.
I didn't finish the book: I'm still on page two.
Growing up, I drove my parents crazy because I just wouldn't do my work. You see, I was told that I am an auditory learner; I remember everything I hear and that's what helped my grades. Reading, studying and taking notes are skills I didn't develop as a child. It simply put me to sleep, not out of boredom but out of fatigue. I didn't have any learning disabilities. What I did have was convergence insufficiency.
My eyes were misaligned, and it was nearly impossible for me to bring in my two eyes together to read for prolonged periods of time. I compensated for that by auditory means and that's how I retained new information. That strategy didn't work for long, as the demand increased and the headaches followed. I was prescribed glasses that did absolutely nothing. Caffeine and tylenol became my friends so I could keep going, keep reading, keep studying and keep making good grades.
I'm not the only one that had to live with misaligned extraocular muscles. Up to a third of the population has convergence insufficiency; about half of them have symptoms such as headaches; the majority of those symptoms got dismissed in the past!
Now, we know more about the visual system and how the two eyes work together and move together. We're able to measure the smallest of deviations that slow down our reading speed and affect our grades or our productivity. We offer multiple solutions ranging from contoured prism (Neurolens) to surgical intervention in some cases. Neurolenses have been a life-changing addition to many suffering from convergence insufficiency. Neurolenses immediately help realign the images that we're looking at, enhancing binocularity, and relieving stress from our visual system, specifically the trigeminal nerve. What makes Neurolens unique is the use of contoured progressive prism to realign the images according to the measured deviation. The technology that was initially intended for ocular deviation also managed to help traumatic brain injury patients, post stroke patients, migraine patients, and trigeminal dysphoria patients.
Due to the overwhelming positive feedback we get from Neurolenses, we now screen all our patients that suffer from headaches for extraocular misalignment. If you have symptoms such as headaches, migraines, dry eyes, computer fatigue, blurred or double vision, come see us to start your journey of relief!
